The Town & Country Symphony Orchestra enjoys serving the St. Louis area through its musical concerts. The Orchestra performs in a variety of community locations including area churches, plazas and malls, retirement centers and parks. The Orchestra also performs in a variety of musical styles -- classical, Christmas pops, operettas, and oratorios.
The Orchestra, previously Brentwood Symphony Orchestra, moved recently to Town and County. A grant program created and sustained by The City of Town and Country assists the Orchestra. The Orchestra rehearses and performs at The Principia.
The Town & Country (Brentwood) Symphony Chamber Orchestra and soloists toured England and France in 1987. The Anheuser-Busch Chorale joined them in four exciting concerts. The Town & Country (Brentwood) Symphony Orchestra returned to Europe in June 1994, to participate in the commemoration of the 50th Aniversary of the Normandy landings that led to the liberation of France. Concerts at the Peace Memorial in Caen and a wreath-laying ceremony and a musical tribute at the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach observed these events. Additional concerts were performed in the Cour Ovale of the Fontainebleau Palace and at the Blois Castle in the Loire Valley. The tour continued to Austria where a concert was performed in the municipal park at Salzberg near Mozart's birthplace.
The self-governing and independent Town & Country Symphony Orchestra performs under the leadership of David Lowell Peek who has conducted the Orchestra since 1983. He participated in the 1975 Villa-Lobos International conducting Competition in Rio de Janeiro. He was a Fulbright Conducting Finalist to Germany and a Doctoral Conducting Finalist at the Eastman School of Music. In recent years, Mr. Peek was named an alternate in the Exxon Conductor Audition Program and he has served as guest conductor for the Northern Music Festival in North Bay, Ontario.
