Never Rest an Instrument On Its Back!
Many beginning players are tempted to set their instrument on its backplate during a practice or rehearsal break. This action places undue stress on the center of the curved backplate and is never recommended. If you must momentarily rest your instrument and a case or stand is not readily available, it is better to place the instrument on its side rib. Without a doubt, the best course of action is always to rest your instrument in its case or on a stand.
